Maylan Newton Tribute, Nissan Job Cuts, and Trump Tariffs
Braxton Critcher [00:00:00]:
Here's what you need to know right now in Auto Repair, I am Braxton Critcher the Trump administration is making a major shift in U.S. emissions policies, rolling back electric vehicle mandates and challenging federal emission standards. A new executive order signed by Trump in January eliminates previous EV sales requirements, suspends federal funding for charging infrastructure and remove certain EV related subsidies. Industry experts predict these changes will slow the growth of electric vehicles, and their latest forecast suggests that automakers will pivot towards hybrid vehicles as a way to meet emissions targets while avoiding costly investments in full electrification. Under the Biden administration, federal regulators implemented aggressive emission standards for the 2027 through 2032 model years, requiring automaker to significantly increase zero emissions vehicle production. However, President Trump's latest executive order aims to challenge the EPA's authority in setting these regulations, calling for what he describes as a level regulatory playing field that promotes consumer choice. California's stricter emissions rules, followed by 13 other states and Washington, D.C. require all new cars sold by 2035 to be zero emission vehicles.
