Ford is facing two new investigations by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after paying a $165 million penalty last week for delays in recalling vehicles with defective rearview cameras. One probe focuses on a February recall of 77,000 SUVs over SE belt issues following complaints of seat belt pretensioners deploying unexpectedly. NHTSA is now evaluating Whether an additional 112 vehicles are also at risk. The second investigation involves an April recall of 456,000 vehicles for battery related power loss. Despite software updates, reports of power failures persistent, Ford says it is cooperating fully with the nhtsa. Advance Auto Parts is implementing a bold turnaround plan after selling world pack for 1.5 billion earlier this month.

CEO Shane O'Kelly addressed ongoing challenges like falling stock prices and a 6 million third quarter loss on a 2.15 billion revenue. Advanced also announced the closure of 523 corporate stores, four distribution centers and 204 entries independent locations by mid 2025. The company will streamline operations by consolidating its supply chain and converting some sites into market hubs. Advance claims to refocus on its core mission of selling auto parts through a blended box model catering to both DIY customers and professional repair centers. The 2024 SEMA Market Report reveals that the specialty automotive aftermarket reached a record 52.3 billion in 2021% in the previous year, key sectors saw continued growth, including appearance, products, performance, parts and wheels. Younger buyers, particularly those under 40, drive demand for accessories and complex upgrades like suspension and engine modifications. While EVs and hybrids represent opportunities, internal combustion engines are projected to dominate sales for the next decade. Alternative fuel vehicle upgrades did generate 2.5 billion last year.

The Tire Industry Association CEO Dick Gust has joined the inaugural board of the Tire Recycling Foundation. Launched by TIA and the US Tire Manufacturers association, the TRF aims to advance tire recycling and sustainability with goals like achieving 100% circularity for end of life tires by 2030. The foundation will focus on innovations like rubber modified asphalt and aims to raise $300,000 in 2025 to fund recycling research and education. GUST says it's an honor to help drive sustainable solutions for the tire industry and the planet. NAPA has partnered with the University of the Aftermarket foundation to award 20 scholarships, each worth $2,500 to Aspiring Automotive Techn, including five scholarships for women. The initiative supports talent development and addresses the technician shortage. The platform will debut with Jeep and Ram models offering battery electric vehicles, a 500 mile range and a 14,000 pound towing capacity.
